What happens when feelings are translated into movement? What does it look like when you communicate through dancing? Can you dance with a tender feelings? Commissioned by Bern Ballett Armenian choreographer Rima Pipoyan cerates work around the topic of love. Large light frames designed by Verena Hemmerian float at various points on the stage; the dancers, some standing alone and some in pairs, step out of them. The idea of the frames and layers is also translated in the costumes by Irina Shaposhnikova. Appearing through the frames in colourful monochrome asymmetric skirts and tops dancers are transforming and deconstructing costumes during the performance into transparent see through layered dresses.

Feelings are complex. They can remain invisible and hidden, or they can find expression through physical expression. The intersection between inner emotion and outer affect is particularly important in dance: Movement triggers movement and manifests itself through the body in space and time. This evening’s choreographers aim to explore this dynamic and bring three different approaches to emotions in motion to the stage in their works. In this dance evening with Bern Ballet, Etienne Béchard, Mauro Astolfi, and the Armenian choreographer Rima Pipoyan explore the body as an archive of the emotions of anger, fear, and love. The Bern Symphony Orchestra will accompany Bern Ballet live, performing individual movements from symphonies by Ludwig van Beethoven and Gustav Mahler, among others.
