The ballet Icon was born from Rima Pipoyan’s encounter with Tarkovsky’s Andrei Rublev, where the silence and spirit of the film ignited a vision. Inspired further by the luminous world of Russian icon painting, the work transforms sacred imagery into movement, offering a visual and spiritual meditation on faith, art, and the human soul.
The heroes of Rima Pipoyan’s ballet are united by the idea of exploring their human nature. Torn between sin and virtue, they strive to find a path to perfection, to overcome their passions in the pursuit of happiness and inner freedom. The dance score captures the chronology of this quest, creating a living canvas—a visual imprint of both the collective and individual journeys of each character.
