Mourning Women

Rima Pipoyan Dance Company

The performance is inspired by the same name ancient sarcophagus found in the city of Sidon, currenlty is located at the archeological museum in Istanbul.

On stage, the ancient figure of the mourning woman is revived—once a professional role in funerary rituals of Egypt, Greece, and Rome, where women gave voice to grief that men could not publicly express. Today, this archetype transforms into a powerful image of resilience, as women emerge not only as bearers of sorrow but as creators, visionaries, and fighters for their future.
