Contemporary Ballet in One Act
The world premiere of Sinful Passions took place on July 7 at the Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet to a full house. Dedicated to the 25-year stage career of Honored Artist of Armenia Maria Divanyan, the production aimed to advance and develop contemporary ballet art in Armenia.
The ballet addresses one of the most mysterious and scandalous figures of the 18th century—Princess Tarakanova—whose dramatic life has inspired countless books, studies, and films. The story unfolds entirely to the music of Beethoven, featuring the second movements of his Symphonies No. 2, 3, 5, and 7. This unique musical compilation was used for the first time as a complete accompaniment to a ballet performance, enriching the action with deep drama and emotional resonance.
